Right now as I type, San Diego Comiccon is in full swing. Even though HBComics is not in attendence, Lazerman has made an unexpected appearence,
Over in the Shocker Toys booth, a resin final approved sculpt of LAZERMAN sits in the disply case, along side the other Indie Spotlight 2 pack offerings.
And here's Lazerman next to Zen, the intergalactic Ninja (the second half of Lazerman's 2-pack), Captian Action, and Madman...
Now some might be thinking something like "Didn't we already see a painted prototype before? And it looked different..."
Well, lets clear that up. At Toyfair 2010 this past February, a Lazerman MOCK-UP was on display. The differnce between a Mock-up and a prototype is substantial.
A Mockup is litterally thrown together, Often using existing pieces and molding. It's little more than a cobbled together custom. It's point is simply to serve as a proof of concept, to give an idea of what a finished figure might look like. Some mock-ups do little more than show that a figure WILL be made.
If you look at Lazerman's face from the toyfair photo, you'll notice he looks quite older than it should. That's because the "mock-up" was comprised of existing parts, not meant for the Lazerman figure (the body was a repainted Shadowhawk, for instance. Look closely and you'll see the bands of ShadowHawk's costume, painted over in yellow...
The PROTOTYPE on display at San Diego Comiccon, however, is the final sculpt, already approved by us, for the Lazerman figure. Note the sculpting is now much more accurate, and is a much closer likeness to his comic book counterpart (although it is difficult to see detail too closely in these pics)
We have a much more clear photo, provided to us by Shocker, that illustrates just how dead on the new sculpt is. We had planned to post that pic here, but we are waiting for permission from Shocker, who right now is busy with SDCC. Once we are cleared we will post it.
So spread the word, and keep your eyes open! the Lazerman six-inch figure may be coming sooner than you think!
See you next blog!
Chris
